NextGen is Live!

On October 25, 2021, the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of Illinois upgraded its CM/ECF system to NextGen CM/ECF.  With NextGen, e-filers will use their PACER account credentials to log in and e-file in all NextGen federal courts in which they have permission to file.  This feature is known as Central Sign-On.  This means no more individual CM/ECF logins for each court.  Follow the steps below to prepare for this NextGen upgrade.

What You Need to Do Now:

STEP 1.  Obtain your own PACER account

You must have your own PACER account to link to your CM/ECF account to access NextGen CM/ECF.  This account will remain with you even if you move to another organization.  Shared PACER accounts may no longer be used by CM/ECF users.

NOTE:  Trustees and e-filers with multiple CM/ECF accounts with our court must have a separate PACER account for each CM/ECF account due to the one-to-one relationship between PACER accounts and CM/ECF accounts.

If you already have your own PACER account, proceed to Step 2.

STEP 2.  Upgrade your existing PACER account

If your PACER account was issued prior to August 11, 2014, it is a Legacy PACER Account that must be upgraded.  If your PACER username is only 6 characters long, then it is a Legacy PACER Account that must be upgraded.

NOTE:  If your Legacy PACER account was set as your default PACER login when logging into CM/ECF as a filer, then you will need to change your default PACER login with your upgraded PACER credentials.

STEP 3.  Note your current CM/ECF login and password

You must know your current CM/ECF login and password before the Court upgrades to NextGen.  If your login information is stored in your internet browser, it will be lost and not recoverable after conversion to NextGen.

STEP 4.  Consider obtaining a PACER Administrative Account (PAA) for your firm

Firms can set up a PAA to manage all their user accounts and have central billing for PACER access fees.

On or After October 25, 2021:

Link your PACER account to your CM/ECF account

You will not be able to e-file until your upgraded, individual PACER account is linked to your CM/ECF account.  You will need both your PACER and CM/ECF logins and passwords for this one-time process.
